Dad’s Lemonade

When life gets rough, go suck a lemon…wait, that’s not how the saying goes.  Nevertheless, today we are making my version of lemonade.  OK, so this is not quite a traditional lemonade recipe, but it is plenty refreshing and hits the spot after a rough day.  I have been working out this recipe for a while now.  Or maybe just taste testing it anyway, but this is work…yes, work, hard, hard work.  You see, I am entirely dedicated to fully developing my recipes and testing them thoroughly.  Are you convinced yet about how hard I am working on this drink recipe?  This is such hard work, I may need another refreshing lemonade.

To make a simple syrup is, as the name might suggest, quite simple.  Combine equal parts sugar and water.  Bring just to a boil and then let it cool.  If you have been keeping up with the site, you may recall another beverage I posted recently that also included a simple syrup.  For that recipe I added some orange and rosemary to give it some flavor.  You can add most any flavor you like, depending on what you are going to use the syrup for.  But this recipe needs just the straight stuff…sometimes you just need to keep it simple.

Dad’s Lemonade

  • 1 1/2 parts Vodka
  • 1 part simple syrup
  • 1/2 part lemon juice
  • Slice lemon to garnish

To be honest, I never really measure the ingredients for this drink.  Usually it is a last minute decision after a rough day and I just throw it together.  The ratios here are a rough estimation and you can experiment until you find the right mixture you like.  After all, this is not a science, this is supposed to be a tension reliever.  So, let’s get to it…the instructions are simple: Combine all ingredients in a glass.  Garnish with a slice of lemon and throw in a few ice cubes.  Sit back and relax.
